Academics in my institution
Well the next topic I am choosing right now to write about might be a debatable one especially since I have some spectators (who might trickle in from time to time to peek at my blogpage) who were toppers in this very university and might continue to be so even today in their respective fields. Let me start off with the topic
After remaining sane one whole semester battling responsibilities, facing charges from lecturers of incompetence in finshing work and begging lecturers for more time for finishing the drawing sheets, I finally somehow felt I had put an end to it and might retire for a fortnight or so from academics. Now the nightmare of the whole ordeal reeled back in my mind when some of my friends who were also unfortunately staying back for holidays in this godforsaken place came to tell me that results of some papers were out and the same old story. The usual toppers clinched their places in the domain of academic excellence. Well let us look at and reflect upon their so called commendable performance case by case
I ended up studying the whole book of steel design and following the Indian Standard codes only to realize after examination that there existed some hand written rules the lecturer himself had created from his so called extensive industrial experience of which I was ignorant about. And what followed was a victory again of the muggus while we were left biting dust.
(Friends there are many instances pertaining to this topic but since I have just 3 more months or so remaining to spend in this college I would like to save myself from the agony of any person discovering this blog and using it for evaluation purposes later. I surely promise the readers of this blog that I am going to vent all my fury once I am kicked out of this college.)
I have been hearing the monologue of these mindless souls for almost three years since my admission here. The standard dialogues I hear to queries I pose as to how they solved a particular question are "Sir told us in class to use that formula", "I don't know man it was told in class na", "Hey sir solved like that man so I also did the same thing". Is'nt anyone going to fill a little sense to their brains. Is'nt there a case involved is'nt there a basis for making an assumption is it valid at all points irrespective of the case involved?? Just because sir told na??
I feel very sad about making such statements but I do have to say that the educational system (although not in general but atleast in my institution) has failed to serve the purpose of what it is meant to do. If cases illustrated as above become rampant with the present educational system would it be befitting to assume that marks and academic performance would be a pertinent indication of the performance of a student, atleast in productive terms. Is he/she going to use the same funda of sir told na in company while tackling with clients?? I do hope may be I get a chance to see such a spectacle of the so called academically competent guy finding himself in a difficult situation.
I am atleast happy that soon such an obsolete system is being replaced by the CGPA system. So hoping soon that the era of muggers is going to bite the dust.
(P.S. The examples sited in the above post are not intended to highlight or intended to mean disrespect for any faculty members involved. It is just to sight an example of the attitude of most of my classmates which I resented from a long time since I joined this instiute).
